Bavarian Weizen Fresh Wort Kit – Keg king

$60.00

The Bavarian Weizen Fresh Wort Kit – Keg King makes it easy to brew a traditional German-style wheat beer with a soft malt profile, refreshing finish and classic yeast-driven character.

Made with equal parts Pilsner malt and pale wheat malt, this 16.5-litre all grain fresh wort kit provides the ideal base for a cloudy, pale and highly drinkable Weizen. Add approximately 3 litres of water for the intended balance, or ferment undiluted for a richer, higher-gravity beer.

Recommended yeast: Mangrove Jack’s M20 Bavarian Wheat.

Yeast is not included.

Available on back-order

The Bavarian Weizen Fresh Wort Kit – Keg King gives homebrewers a convenient way to produce a refreshing German-style wheat beer without completing a full all grain brew day. Made on a Speidel 500L Braumeister Brewery, the wort is professionally mashed, boiled and prepared before being packed ready for fermentation.

This kit uses a simple and traditional grist of 50% Pilsner malt and 50% pale wheat malt. The combination creates a light grain flavour, soft body and naturally hazy appearance. Most of the familiar banana, clove and gentle spice notes associated with Bavarian wheat beer come from the selected yeast, making fermentation control especially important.

Each cube contains approximately 16.5 litres of fresh wort. Add around 3 litres of clean water to achieve the intended balance and a final volume of approximately 20 litres. Alternatively, ferment the wort undiluted for a fuller-bodied, richer and potentially stronger beer.

Flavour and Aroma Profile

Expect a pale, cloudy wheat beer with a soft malt profile and a smooth, refreshing mouthfeel. Pilsner malt contributes clean grain and light bread flavours, while pale wheat malt supports body, haze and a lasting white head.

When fermented with Mangrove Jack’s M20 Bavarian Wheat Yeast, the finished beer can develop classic notes of banana, clove and gentle spice. Fermentation temperature will influence the final balance. Warmer temperatures may encourage more banana-like esters, while cooler temperatures can increase clove and spice character.

At approximately 19 IBUs, the bitterness remains low and smooth. Northern Brewer hops provide enough structure to balance the malt without distracting from the wheat and yeast profile.

Recommended Yeast

Mangrove Jack’s M20 Bavarian Wheat Yeast

M20 is designed for German wheat beer styles and can produce familiar banana, clove and subtle spice character. It is an excellent choice for Hefeweizen, Weizenbier and other yeast-forward wheat beers.

Always follow the pitching and fermentation temperature instructions printed on the yeast packet.

Brewing Instructions

  1. Clean and sanitise the fermenter, lid, airlock, tap and all equipment that will contact the wort.
  2. Transfer the full contents of the fresh wort cube into the sanitised fermenter.
  3. Add approximately 3 litres of clean water for the intended flavour and strength.
  4. Mix thoroughly and aerate the wort.
  5. Check that the wort is within the recommended pitching temperature for M20 or your selected wheat beer yeast.
  6. Pitch the yeast and seal the fermenter.
  7. Maintain a stable fermentation temperature throughout primary fermentation.
  8. Allow fermentation to continue until the specific gravity remains stable over consecutive days.
  9. Bottle or keg using properly sanitised equipment.
  10. Carbonate, condition and serve chilled.

Brewer’s Tips

Avoid dry hopping this beer. The recipe is designed to highlight the interaction between wheat malt and expressive yeast character rather than hop aroma.

Do not use strong finings if you want to preserve the traditional cloudy appearance. A Bavarian Weizen is normally served with natural haze, a full white head and lively carbonation.

When bottling or kegging, aim for a moderately high carbonation level to support the refreshing mouthfeel and lift the banana and clove aromas. Always remain within the safe pressure limits of your bottles, keg and dispensing equipment.

Serve in a tall wheat beer glass, leaving enough space for the large, foamy head. Gently rolling the bottle before pouring can help lift settled yeast if you prefer a cloudier, more traditional presentation.

This wheat beer pairs well with:

  • Grilled sausages
  • Roast chicken
  • Soft cheeses
  • Seafood
  • Salads
  • Pretzels
  • Light pasta dishes
  • Mildly spicy foods

Optional Belgian Wit Variation

The Bavarian Weizen Fresh Wort Kit – Keg King can also be used as the base for a Belgian-style Witbier. Add food-grade citrus peel and coriander seed, then substitute an appropriate Belgian Wit yeast such as Wyeast 3944.

The quantity and timing of spice additions will affect the final flavour. Use restrained amounts so the citrus and coriander complement the wheat base rather than overpowering it.

The Bavarian Weizen Fresh Wort Kit – Keg King is an excellent choice for brewers who enjoy refreshing, yeast-driven wheat beers. It delivers genuine all grain flavour, traditional malt balance and brewing convenience with minimal preparation and cleaning.
