Product Description

30L Ampi Fermenter is a practical, multipurpose fermentation vessel designed for homebrewers making beer, cider, wine, mead, ginger beer and other fermented beverages. Its generous 30-litre capacity suits many standard homebrew recipes while allowing useful headspace for active fermentation.

Made from durable food-grade plastic, this fermenter is lightweight, easy to handle and less prone to breakage than glass vessels. The wide screw-top lid also makes filling, cleaning and adding ingredients straightforward.

This listing includes the fermenter and screw lid only. A tap, airlock, grommet and thermometer are not included.

Suitable for a Wide Range of Recipes

Use this fermenter for making:

  • Beer
  • Fresh wort kit beer
  • Extract beer
  • Cider
  • Ginger beer
  • Wine
  • Mead
  • Lemonade
  • Sarsaparilla
  • Spirit washes
  • Sugar washes
  • Experimental fermented drinks

Its 30-litre capacity is suitable for many common 20 to 23-litre batches, leaving room for foam, krausen and yeast activity.

Durable Food-Grade Plastic

The vessel is made from food-grade plastic suitable for home fermentation.

Plastic fermenters offer several practical benefits:

  • Lightweight construction
  • Easier handling than glass
  • Reduced breakage risk
  • Simple cleaning
  • Convenient storage
  • Suitable for beginner and experienced brewers

Avoid abrasive brushes, scouring pads and harsh cleaning tools. Scratches can trap residue and make sanitation more difficult.

Secure Screw-Top Lid

The screw lid provides easy access while helping keep the vessel securely closed during fermentation.

A screw-top design is useful when:

  • Adding brewing extract
  • Stirring ingredients
  • Transferring wort or juice
  • Adding fruit or other ingredients
  • Cleaning the vessel
  • Inspecting the fermenter between batches

Always make sure the lid and threads are clean before closing the fermenter.

Vessel Only

The 30L Ampi Fermenter is supplied without brewing accessories.

The following items are not included:

  • Tap
  • Airlock
  • Airlock grommet
  • Thermometer

These parts can be selected separately to suit your preferred brewing setup.

The fermenter accepts a standard-style fermenter tap, although compatibility should be checked before purchase.

Setting Up the Fermenter

Before use, you may need to install the required accessories.

A typical setup may include:

  1. A compatible fermenter tap
  2. A tap washer or seal
  3. An airlock
  4. A suitable airlock grommet
  5. A stick-on or digital thermometer

After installing the tap, complete a water leak test before adding wort or another beverage.

Do not overtighten the tap, as excessive force may damage the seal or vessel.

General Brewing Instructions

  1. Clean the fermenter and screw lid thoroughly.
  2. Install any separately purchased accessories.
  3. Rinse where required by the cleaning product.
  4. Sanitise every surface that will contact the beverage.
  5. Test the tap and seals for leaks where fitted.
  6. Add the prepared wort, juice or wash.
  7. Top up to the required batch volume.
  8. Confirm the liquid is at the correct pitching temperature.
  9. Add the selected yeast.
  10. Secure the screw lid.
  11. Fit an airlock if your setup uses one.
  12. Maintain a stable fermentation temperature.
  13. Monitor fermentation using gravity readings.
  14. Package only after fermentation is complete.

Do not rely only on airlock bubbling to determine whether fermentation has finished. Confirm stable gravity readings over consecutive days before bottling or kegging.

Headspace During Fermentation

Do not fill the fermenter completely to the top.

Active fermentation can produce:

  • Krausen
  • Foam
  • Carbon dioxide
  • Rising fruit pulp
  • Expanding ingredients

Leaving enough headspace reduces the risk of foam reaching the lid or airlock.

Very active fermentations may require a smaller batch volume or blow-off setup.

Cleaning and Sanitation

Good cleaning and sanitation are essential for reliable brewing results.

After use:

  • Rinse the vessel promptly
  • Remove visible residue
  • Clean the lid and threads
  • Clean around the tap opening
  • Allow the vessel to dry completely
  • Inspect for scratches or damage

Before each batch, sanitise all beverage-contact surfaces with a suitable brewing sanitiser.

Replace the fermenter if it develops deep scratches, cracks, persistent odours or damage that cannot be cleaned properly.

Using the Fermenter for Beer

This fermenter is suitable for:

  • Fresh wort kits
  • Extract kits
  • All grain wort
  • Lager
  • Pale Ale
  • IPA
  • Stout
  • Porter
  • Wheat beer

Leave enough headspace for active ale fermentation and maintain the temperature recommended for the chosen yeast.

Using the Fermenter for Wine and Cider

For wine and cider:

  • Use suitable yeast nutrient where required
  • Leave room for fruit or foam
  • Monitor specific gravity
  • Avoid excessive oxygen exposure after fermentation
  • Clean the vessel promptly after sugary recipes

Fruit additions can increase fermentation activity and sediment.

Using the Fermenter for Washes

The vessel can also be used for suitable spirit or sugar washes.

When preparing a wash:

  • Follow the yeast and nutrient instructions
  • Avoid overfilling
  • Maintain the recommended temperature
  • Allow fermentation to finish completely
  • Clarify or settle the wash where required

Use distillation equipment only in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
