The pack includes the 8L Oxebar vessel, screw-on PCO38 cap, carry handle and PCO38 tapping head for use with compatible ball lock disconnects.

Compact 8-Litre Capacity

The smaller 8-litre size is useful when a full-size 19L keg is unnecessary.

It suits:

  • Test brews
  • Experimental recipes
  • Small cider batches
  • Kombucha
  • Soft drink
  • Sparkling water
  • Leftover beer from a larger batch
  • Portable party setups
  • Camping and caravan use
  • Small fridges and compact kegerators

Its compact footprint makes it easier to chill and transport than larger keg formats.

Ball Lock Compatible Tapping Head

The 8L Oxebar Keg Ball Lock Tapping Draught Pack includes a PCO38 tapping head designed for compatible ball lock gas and liquid disconnects.

This allows users to integrate the keg into a standard homebrew dispensing system using familiar kegging components.

A complete serving setup may also require:

  • Gas disconnect
  • Liquid disconnect
  • CO₂ cylinder
  • Gas regulator
  • Beverage line
  • Beer tap or picnic tap
  • Compatible fittings

These accessories are not included unless stated separately.

Suitable for Carbonated and Still Beverages

The Oxebar can be used for many compatible drinks, including:

  • Homebrew beer
  • Cider
  • Ginger beer
  • Hard seltzer
  • Sparkling water
  • Soft drinks
  • Kombucha
  • Premixed beverages
  • Still beverages

Sweet and acidic drinks may require more frequent cleaning.

Always make sure the beverage is compatible with the vessel, seals and dispensing equipment.

Lightweight PET Construction

PET construction provides several practical benefits:

  • Lower weight than stainless steel
  • Easy transport
  • Reduced purchase cost
  • Compact storage
  • Simple visual inspection
  • Useful for portable dispensing

The clear vessel also allows you to monitor liquid level and sediment.

However, PET pressure vessels must be handled carefully, protected from heat and sunlight, and inspected regularly for damage.

Carry Handle and Screw-On Cap

The supplied handle makes the keg easier to transport when empty or partially filled.

The screw-on PCO38 cap provides a simple closure for storage and transport.

Before pressurising:

  • Check the cap thread
  • Inspect the seal
  • Confirm the tapping head is fitted correctly
  • Make sure the pressure relief valve is secure
  • Check for visible damage

Do not overtighten threaded parts.

Pressure and Temperature Limits

Do not exceed:

  • 4 bar
  • 65psi
  • 45°C

These limits are critical for safe use.

Never expose the keg to:

  • Boiling liquid
  • Excessive heat
  • Direct flame
  • Hot vehicle interiors
  • Unregulated pressure sources
  • Pressure above the stated limit

Always use a suitable regulator and pressure relief device.

Periodic Hydrotesting

Pressure vessels should be tested periodically to confirm they remain suitable for service.

The recommended interval is every two years.

The hydrotest is performed with water because water stores far less energy than compressed gas, making the test safer.

Hydrotesting Procedure

To pressure-test the keg:

  1. Remove the red pressure relief valve.
  2. Fit a compatible grey pressure relief valve.
  3. Fill the keg completely to the brim with water.
  4. Make sure no air space remains.
  5. Pressurise the keg to 6 bar using a suitable pressure source.
  6. Hold it at 6 bar for one minute.
  7. Release all pressure.
  8. Remove the grey pressure relief valve.
  9. Reinstall the original red pressure relief valve.

The test should be completed with the keg and water at a room temperature between 15°C and 30°C.

Never perform the 6 bar test with an empty keg or compressed gas alone.

Why the Keg Must Be Full of Water

Filling the vessel completely with water greatly reduces the amount of stored energy during the test.

This is important because compressed gas can release energy violently if a vessel fails.

Always:

  • Fill to the absolute brim
  • Remove trapped air
  • Test in a clear area
  • Wear eye protection
  • Keep bystanders away
  • Release pressure safely

Do not skip this step.

Inspect Before Every Use

Before filling or pressurising, inspect the vessel carefully.

Do not use the keg if you notice:

  • Cracks
  • Deep scratches
  • White stress marks
  • Damaged threads
  • Bulging
  • Permanent deformation
  • Leaking fittings
  • Worn seals
  • Damaged pressure relief components

Replace the vessel if there is any doubt about its condition.

Cleaning and Sanitation

Clean the keg promptly after use.

A general cleaning process includes:

  1. Release all pressure.
  2. Remove the tapping head and cap.
  3. Rinse the keg with cool or warm water.
  4. Add a suitable PET-safe brewery cleaner.
  5. Soak according to the cleaner instructions.
  6. Rinse thoroughly if required.
  7. Clean the tapping head and fittings.
  8. Sanitise before refilling.
  9. Allow the keg to dry away from direct sunlight.

Avoid abrasive brushes and harsh chemicals that may scratch or weaken PET.

Avoid Heat and Sunlight

PET pressure vessels should be stored away from direct sunlight.

Ultraviolet light and excessive heat may degrade the plastic over time.

Store the keg:

  • Indoors
  • In a cool, dry place
  • Away from direct sunlight
  • Away from heat sources
  • Empty and depressurised when not in use
  • Protected from sharp objects

Do not leave it in a hot car or direct summer sun.

Small-Batch Kegging

The 8L size is ideal for splitting a larger brew into multiple flavours or serving formats.

For example, you can:

  • Keg part of a batch
  • Bottle the remainder
  • Add fruit to one portion
  • Trial dry hopping
  • Compare carbonation levels
  • Prepare a portable serving keg

This flexibility makes the Oxebar useful for both new and experienced brewers.

Portable Draught Use

The lightweight format suits:

  • Parties
  • Picnics
  • Camping
  • Caravan trips
  • BBQs
  • Homebrew club events
  • Temporary bars

For portable dispensing, keep the keg cool and secure during transport.

A suitable insulated bag, ice bath or portable refrigeration system may help maintain serving temperature.

General Setup Guide

A typical setup includes:

  1. Clean and sanitise the keg.
  2. Fill with the finished beverage.
  3. Fit the cap and tapping head.
  4. Connect the gas disconnect.
  5. Connect the liquid disconnect.
  6. Apply regulated CO₂ pressure.
  7. Check all fittings for leaks.
  8. Chill the keg.
  9. Carbonate or serve as required.
  10. Release pressure before disassembly.

Always use regulated gas pressure.

Carbonation

The keg can be used for force carbonation.

Carbonation time depends on:

  • Beverage temperature
  • Applied pressure
  • Desired carbonation level
  • Agitation
  • Gas contact time

Cold liquid absorbs CO₂ more effectively than warm liquid.

Do not exceed the maximum pressure rating in an attempt to speed up carbonation.

Important Notes

  • Maximum working pressure is 4 bar or 65psi.
  • Maximum temperature is 45°C.
  • Hydrotest every two years.
  • Hydrotest to 6 bar with the keg completely full of water.
  • Never hydrotest with compressed gas in an empty vessel.
  • Use only regulated pressure.
  • Inspect the keg before every use.
  • Keep away from heat and direct sunlight.
  • Ball lock disconnects are not included unless stated separately.
  • CO₂ equipment and serving hardware are sold separately.
  • Replace the vessel if it shows cracks, white stress marks or damage.
