Bentonite 1kg is a premium natural fining agent widely used by home winemakers and commercial wineries to improve wine clarity, stability, and overall appearance. Also known as Montmorillonite, bentonite is a naturally occurring hydrated aluminosilicate containing sodium, calcium, magnesium, and iron.
During winemaking, suspended proteins and fine particles can remain in solution, causing haze and reducing the brilliance of the finished wine. Bentonite 1kg works by attracting these positively charged proteins and other suspended solids, causing them to bind together and settle to the bottom of the vessel. This process produces a cleaner, brighter, and more stable wine.
In addition to its role as a fining agent, Bentonite 1kg can also be used at the beginning of fermentation. When added to clear juice must before yeast is pitched, it provides nucleation sites that encourage yeast activity and can help promote a faster and more vigorous start to fermentation.
Suitable for red wines, white wines, rosé wines, fruit wines, and mead, bentonite is one of the most trusted and effective clarification agents available. When used correctly, it helps produce crystal-clear wines with improved stability while reducing the risk of protein haze developing after bottling.
Whether you’re clarifying homemade wine or improving fermentation performance, Bentonite 1kg is an essential winemaking ingredient for achieving professional-quality results.

Usage Instructions
As a Fining Agent
• Use approximately 0.5g per litre of wine.
Preparation
• Dissolve bentonite by blending into boiling water.
• Use approximately 25ml of boiling water per gram of bentonite.
Example:
For a 23-litre batch:
• 11.5g Bentonite
• Approximately 300ml boiling water
Allow the mixture to stand for 24 hours, then stir thoroughly into the wine.
Leave for approximately 2 weeks before carefully racking the wine off the settled sediment.
How Bentonite Works
Bentonite carries a negative electrical charge that attracts positively charged proteins and suspended particles within the wine. These particles combine into larger clumps that settle naturally to the bottom of the fermenter, making them easy to remove during racking.
