Campden Tablets x 50 are an essential addition to any home brewer’s, winemaker’s, or cider maker’s toolkit. Made from potassium metabisulphite, these convenient pre-measured tablets help protect beverages from spoilage organisms, prevent oxidation, and improve overall product quality throughout the fermentation process.
One of the primary uses of Campden Tablets x 50 is inhibiting the growth of wild yeast, bacteria, and other unwanted microorganisms that can negatively impact fermentation. By helping create a cleaner fermentation environment, Campden tablets assist in producing more consistent and reliable results.
In winemaking, Campden Tablets x 50 are commonly added to freshly crushed fruit, juice, or must before fermentation begins. This helps suppress naturally occurring wild yeasts and bacteria, allowing the selected wine yeast strain to perform more effectively. They are also frequently used during racking to help protect finished wine from oxidation and microbial contamination.
For brewers, Campden tablets are widely used to remove chlorine and chloramine from brewing water. These compounds can create unwanted medicinal or plastic-like off-flavours if left untreated. A small amount of Campden Tablets x 50 can quickly neutralise chlorine in brewing water, helping improve beer quality and flavour.
Potassium metabisulphite also acts as an antioxidant by scavenging oxygen and reducing oxidation. This helps preserve freshness, colour, aroma, and flavour in wines, ciders, and other fermented beverages.
Packaged in a convenient tamper-proof and resealable container, Campden Tablets x 50 offer an easy and reliable way to manage sanitation, water treatment, and oxidation protection throughout the brewing and winemaking process.
