Product Description
Type 30 MK5 CO₂ Regulator combines tool-free installation, accurate dual-gauge monitoring and an improved serviceable design for reliable homebrew gas control. It connects to compatible Australian Type 30 CO₂ cylinders and allows users to regulate gas pressure for keg dispensing, force carbonation and other suitable draught applications.
The easy-grip cylinder handwheel removes the need to use a spanner or wrench during normal installation. In addition, the integrated 8mm Duotight outlet, ball valve and check valve create a clean and practical connection for compatible kegging gas line.
Tool-Free Type 30 Connection
The regulator includes a Type 30 nut and stem with a large handwheel.
This allows the connection to be tightened onto a compatible CO₂ cylinder by hand. Therefore, you do not need to find a spanner each time you change or connect a cylinder.
The updated spigot seal is designed to compress easily and form a dependable seal without excessive tightening.
Benefits include:
- Faster cylinder changes
- One-handed tightening
- No spanner required for normal connection
- Reduced risk of overtightening
- Easier installation in compact spaces
- Convenient use in home and mobile systems
Always inspect the seal and cylinder connection before installation.
Dual Triple-Scale Gauges
The Type 30 MK5 CO₂ Regulator includes two Class 2.5 gauges with readings displayed in:
- Kilopascals
- Bar
- PSI
The gauges provide accuracy within approximately plus or minus 2.5%.
One gauge displays the regulated output pressure. Meanwhile, the other monitors the cylinder-side pressure.
The outlet gauge helps you set and monitor the pressure supplied to the keg or gas system. However, the cylinder-pressure gauge does not precisely measure the amount of liquid CO₂ remaining. Weighing the bottle is generally a better way to estimate the remaining gas.
Stronger Steel Gauge Housings
The MK5 gauges are constructed from thicker steel for improved physical strength.
This helps protect the gauges during:
- Installation
- Cylinder changes
- Transportation
- Regular homebrew use
- Mobile draught setups
- Storage
An optional heavy-duty black gauge guard is also available separately for additional protection.
Integrated Ball Valve and Check Valve
The regulator outlet includes:
- A shut-off ball valve
- An integrated check valve
- An 8mm Duotight push-in connection
The ball valve allows you to isolate the downstream gas line without changing the regulator setting.
The check valve helps reduce the risk of gas or liquid travelling backwards towards the regulator. This offers added protection against beverage entering the regulator through the gas line.
Although a check valve is included, always use correct keg-filling practices and avoid allowing liquid to enter gas-side equipment.
Integrated 8mm Duotight Outlet
The push-in outlet is designed for compatible tubing with an 8mm outside diameter.
This may include selected EVABarrier gas tubing.
Push-in fittings can provide:
- Faster assembly
- Clean gas-line routing
- Reduced need for hose clamps
- Easy tubing removal
- Compact installation
- Secure connections when fitted correctly
To install the tubing, cut it squarely and push it fully into the fitting until it passes both internal sealing stages.
Always release system pressure before removing tubing.
Green 65psi Pressure Relief Valve
This regulator includes a green pressure relief valve designed for dependable relief at approximately 65psi or 4.5 bar.
It does not include:
- Red 35psi pressure relief valve
- Grey 100psi pressure relief valve
The colour-coded system makes it easier to identify the fitted relief valve.
Never block, modify or replace the PRV with an unsuitable component.
If the valve repeatedly releases pressure, close the cylinder and inspect the regulator and downstream system before continuing.
Improved Seat Cap Assembly
The internal seat cap is made from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene.
This material has been selected to withstand repeated regulator operation, including demanding applications such as force carbonation.
The updated seat design helps reduce scratching and wear that could otherwise produce fine brass particles inside the regulator. Internal contaminants may interfere with the seat and contribute to pressure creep.
Benefits of the updated assembly include:
- Improved wear resistance
- Reduced internal scratching
- Lower risk of brass particles
- Reliable pressure regulation
- Better suitability for frequent use
- Easier maintenance
Self-Serviceable Internal Design
The regulator internals have been redesigned to provide access from the rear plate.
The adjustment knob area includes an M8 hex or Allen-key fitting. This allows the internal assembly to be accessed for cleaning without requiring a vice or specialised workshop equipment.
This may be useful if contamination enters the regulator and affects pressure control.
Before servicing:
- Close the CO₂ cylinder valve.
- Release all trapped downstream pressure.
- Disconnect the regulator from the cylinder.
- Confirm both gauges read zero.
- Follow the manufacturer’s service directions.
- Keep internal parts clean and correctly ordered.
- Reassemble carefully.
- Leak-test before returning the regulator to use.
Do not dismantle a regulator while it is connected to a pressurised cylinder.
Pressure Adjustment
The large adjustment knob makes it easy to change the outlet pressure.
To increase pressure, turn the knob gradually while monitoring the low-pressure gauge.
When reducing pressure:
- Turn the adjustment knob down.
- Release trapped pressure from the downstream system.
- Check the gauge again.
- Fine-tune the setting as required.
Turning the adjustment knob down will not instantly remove gas pressure already trapped inside a keg, manifold or gas line.
Suitable Kegging Applications
The regulator is suitable for many CO₂ kegging applications, including:
- Serving draught beer
- Force carbonating beer
- Dispensing cider
- Carbonating sparkling water
- Serving soft drinks
- Supplying gas manifolds
- Purging compatible kegs
- Pressure-assisted transfers
- Home kegerators
- Keezer systems
Always use the correct pressure for the beverage, keg and complete dispensing setup.
M6 Mounting Holes
M6 mounting holes allow the regulator to be secured to a compatible mounting surface or gas board.
Please note that the easy-grip handwheel may interfere when the regulator is mounted flat. Therefore, you may need to remove the wheel for certain installations.
Secure mounting can help:
- Protect the regulator
- Organise gas equipment
- Reduce strain on cylinder fittings
- Improve access to controls
- Keep gas lines tidy
Use suitable mounting hardware for the chosen surface.
Optional High-Pressure Extension Hose
A compatible 180cm high-pressure extension hose may allow the regulator to be mounted away from the cylinder.
However, when using this type of hose, the easy-grip wheel on the Type 30 nut and stem may need to be removed.
Alternatively, the complete nut and stem may need to be replaced with a standard Type 30 nut and stem.
Always confirm compatibility before adding high-pressure accessories.
Installation Guide
A general installation process includes:
- Secure the CO₂ cylinder upright.
- Confirm that the cylinder uses a Type 30 connection.
- Turn the regulator adjustment knob fully down.
- Make sure the outlet ball valve is closed.
- Inspect the spigot seal and cylinder valve.
- Fit the Type 30 connection to the cylinder.
- Tighten the handwheel firmly by hand.
- Connect compatible 8mm outside-diameter gas tubing.
- Open the cylinder valve slowly.
- Check the cylinder connection for leaks.
- Open the outlet ball valve.
- Adjust the required pressure gradually.
- Leak-test the full gas system.
Never use oil, grease or unsuitable thread tape on the cylinder connection.
Leak Testing
Check for gas leaks every time you connect a cylinder or change gas fittings.
Apply a suitable leak-detection solution around:
- Type 30 cylinder connection
- Regulator body
- Gauge threads
- PRV
- Ball valve
- Duotight fitting
- Gas tubing
- Downstream connections
Bubbles indicate a possible leak.
Close the cylinder, release all pressure and repair the leak before using the system.
Never use a flame to check for gas leaks.
CO₂ Cylinder Safety
Always:
- Keep the cylinder upright
- Secure it against falling
- Store it away from heat
- Protect the cylinder valve
- Use the system in a ventilated area
- Open the valve slowly
- Close the valve before servicing
- Transport the cylinder securely
Carbon dioxide is colourless and can displace oxygen in enclosed areas. Never deliberately release large volumes of CO₂ indoors.
